The mallee parrot (Barnardius barnardi), also known as Barnard's parakeet and the mallee ringneck, is a subspecies of the Australian ringneck (Barnardius zonarius), widely found across inland Australia. A medium-sized parrot with vivid green and blue-green plumage, yellow markings and a distinctive red frontal band, it's a richly coloured subject that lends itself beautifully to the fine detail of gouache and coloured pencil.
