An original acrylic painting of two chocolates by Amanda Gosse

The Art of Indulgence

This is an acrylic painting I completed back in 2020, of two foil-wrapped chocolates from Haigh’s. I was drawn to the way the coloured metallic wrappers—one purple, one green—caught the light, and I tried to capture that reflective quality with simple brushwork. I kept the composition minimal to let the shapes and colours speak for themselves. It’s part of my still life series where I explore everyday objects that might otherwise be overlooked.

Did you know? Haigh’s Chocolates is Australia’s oldest family-owned chocolate maker, founded by Alfred E. Haigh in Adelaide on 1 May 1915. The first store opened at 34 King William Street in the famous Beehive Building. Over the years, the company has remained committed to quality, with Alfred’s grandson, John Haigh, introducing new techniques after training in Switzerland with Lindt & Sprüngli. Today, Haigh’s continues to produce a wide range of chocolates, maintaining its reputation for excellence and tradition.

The original painting is now sold, but limited edition prints are available.
