Original Gouache Painting
A study of a Blue-faced honeyeater, an original gouache painting by Amanda Gosse.
The blue-faced honeyeater, scientific name Entomyzon cyanotis, is a striking, medium-large Australian bird recognised by its vivid cobalt and aqua blue facial skin in adults. It has mainly olive green / green-gold plumage with white underparts, black head and a charcoal grey throat and chest. Commonly found in open forests, parklands and urban gardens across northern and eastern Australia, it forages energetically for nectar, fruit and insects, playing an important role in local pollination networks. Juveniles display a greenish facial skin which gradually turns bright blue as they mature.
Did you know? Blue-faced honeyeaters often raise their chicks with 'nest helpers' – usually older offspring that assist the breeding pair with feeding and defence.
