These gorgeous birds can be seen during summer in the forests of southern Australia. They migrate in the winter into northern Australia, New Guinea, and some of the southern islands of Indonesia. They are ground-nesting birds, they eat flying insects and they have a particular fondness for bees. Measuring only 23-28cm, they are exquisitely coloured, displaying shades of green, brown, yellow and turquoise with a black stripe across the eye.
