A study of a Turquoise Parrot, an original gouache painting by Amanda Gosse.

The Turquoise Parrot, scientific name Neophema pulchella, is found in Southeastern Australia. A jewel of a parrot, this lovely bird’s plumage comprises a veritable paint palette of colours. A small grass parrot, usually seen in pairs or small flocks, foraging on the ground for grass seeds. Their diet also comprises scale insects, flowers and nectar. Once abundant, this gorgeous little bird is now vulnerable to becoming endangered.
Did you know? The female Turquoise Parrot will sometimes carry nesting materials tucked into the feathers on her rump to the nesting site.
