The yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella) is a small passerine bird, easily to identify by its bright yellow plumage, which is streaked with warm brown and black. Found in open countryside and hedgerows, they feed on seeds and insects and nest close to the ground. This once commonly seen bird is now, sadly, on the red conservation status list.
Did you know? The yellowhammer often flies in flocks of other buntings, finches and sparrows.
