This painting brings together a silver charm bracelet – its charms themed around the sea and ocean, with two early sepia photographs: one of Balmoral Beach in Mosman, Sydney, and another of a woman and child by the seaside. Balmoral is one of Sydney's most loved harbour beaches, a place that has drawn families and swimmers for generations, and this painting captures some of that personal nostalgia – the kind of memory that lives in a photograph and a piece of jewellery kept together in a drawer. I've painted this in gouache and coloured pencil on 300gsm watercolour paper, working at the detail of both the silver charms and the photographic imagery with the same close attention.
