Crowned Britain's favourite bird, the Robin, scientific name Erithacus rubecula is found widely across Europe and Scandinavia. Easily recognisable by its orange breast and brown and grey body, the robin is normally the first to be heard as the dawn chorus begins. To us, this song is a beautiful, ornithological aria; to other robins, it's a territorial declaration.
