The brown hare (Lepus europaeus) is one of Britain's most loved countryside mammals, admired for its long ears, powerful legs and alert, expressive gaze. A creature of open farmland, meadows and woodland edges, it relies on speed and agility rather than burrows for protection – capable of reaching speeds of over 70km/h when pursued. I've painted this one in gouache and coloured pencil, aiming to capture the hare's alertness and its sandy-brown coat in fine detail.
