The Peacock Butterfly, scientific name Aglais io, is named as such because of the spectacular eye-like spots on its wings. Its markings, evolved to startle or confuse predators, make it one of the most easily identifiable and recognised species.

Gouache paint and colour pencil on high quality 300gsm watercolour paper.
