Purple Hairstreak Butterfly Painting

The purple hairstreak (Favonius quercus) is found across England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland, but exclusively in oak forests and woodlands, and rarely easy to spot, since these delicate butterflies spend most of their time high in the oak canopy, feeding on honeydew. I've painted this one in gouache and coloured pencil, aiming to highlight the subtle iridescent purple sheen of its wings in fine detail.
