The Purple Hairstreak Butterfly, scientific name Favonius quercus, is found in England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland and only in oak forests and woodlands. Although a non-threatened species, it is not easy to see these pretty butterflies, because they are usually in the canopies of oak trees, where they feed on honeydew.
