This painting combines a gold stick pin set with an emerald and diamonds, pinning two photographs in place: a black and white view of the Grand Canal in Venice, and a smaller sepia portrait of an unknown woman of a bygone era. I've painted this in gouache and coloured pencil on 300gsm watercolour paper, working at the fine detail of the stick pin's emerald and diamond setting against the warmth of the sepia tones.
